Promoting business cooperation between Macedonia and Hong Kong

Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski met July 3th, 2014 with Lunga Chun-yin, Chief executive officer and Chairman of the Executive Council of the special administrative region of Hong Kong, which is part of the People's Republic of China.

The meeting was focused on promoting cooperation in economy, trade and cooperation in the field of investments, as well as achieving cooperation in other fields of mutual interest.

Interlocutors stressed that in future will seek to enhance relations and cooperation between the two sides, between Macedonian and businesspeople from Hong Kong.

The Prime Minister Gruevski informed about the implemented reforms for provision of positive business climate and the advantages our country offers to foreign investors interested to open business in Macedonia.

It was discussed to implementation of procedures that would lead to the signing of agreements to boost economic relations and completing the legal framework for enhanced cooperation between the two sides, which are initiated by the Macedonian government and was discussed about the possibilities for cooperation in the field of tourism.

Both sides, according to the government's press service, discussed opportunities for cooperation in education, where the Prime Minister Gruevski has offered scholarships for students from Hong Kong interested to study at the University of Information Technology "St. Paul the Apostle" in Ohrid.

It was discussed possibilities for cooperation in the field of film industry between entities of this sector on both sides. Given the developed film industry in Hong Kong, the Prime Minister Gruevski presented opportunities our country provides for the subjects of the film production and taping movies scenes in the country, primarily through tax exemptions and refunds amounting to 20 percents offered to film productions.

- We had the opportunity to exchange views on many things, and to talk about several agreements that we would sign for the future development of economic relations with Hong Kong. It was discuss the Agreement for avoidance of double taxation and investment protection. Also we open several other fields where in the future we could cooperate, such as tourism and the film industry, said the Prime Minister Gruevski after the meeting.

The President of the Executive Council of Hong Kong, PR China, Lunga Chun-yin, positively assessed the reforms for improving the business environment, which our country implements and stressed support for the promotion of economic cooperation. He pointed out the advantages of cooperation of Macedonian and the businessmen from Hong Kong.

- From the visit of Prime Minister of Macedonia to Hong Kong and the discussion with him, I had the opportunity to hear about the opportunities offered to businessmen from Hong Kong and the businesses that are located in Hong Kong for collaboration with the Macedonian businessmen. Hong Kong is open economy and we call on cooperation Macedonian businessmen and Hong Kong businessmen to be open minded in relation to the cooperation with foreign partners. We are looking forward to cooperation with the Macedonian government and Macedonian businessmen, said after the meeting Lunga Chun-yin.

The visit of the government delegation continues with holding business forum in Hong Kong.
