2015-04-16 20:20

A delegation of top officials of Chinese most prominent cultural institutions held talks with Macedonia's Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska Milevska on Wednesday, April 15, as the Beijing based Contemporary Dragon KungFu Company will have the honor to close the Dance Fest 2015 on 28 April in Veles.

Macedonia's Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska Milevska and Chinese Ambassador to Macedonia Wen Zhenshun expressed satisfaction  at a press conference with the cultural cooperation between the two countries.

"Macedonia and China have been nourishing excellent cultural relations. The program for cultural cooperation, signed in 2011, has enabled many events, including the Days of Macedonian Culture in China. In honor of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties Skopje and Ohrid hosted the Chinese National Youth Orchestra," KancevkaMilevska said.

This year China is sending renowned, highlyprofessional dance group for the Dance Fest closing ceremony."China's Embassy in Macedonia keeps supporting the cultural exchange between the two countries. I hope for Macedonian media to pay attention to the cultural cooperation and report on the important events," Ambassador Wen said.

Dance Fest art director Risima Risimkin said that Skopje Dance Theater would have the honor to promote Macedonian contemporary dance next month at a festival in Beijing.

The Contemporary Dragon KungFu Company was founded in 2006 by internationally famous Kung Fu star Jackie Chan. The company's style combines traditional Chinese martial arts with contemporary dance techniques and combat practices. Martial arts hold an honorable place in China. They are recognized as traditional sport and valuable cultural heritage.

The Contemporary Dragon KungFu Company aims to preserve tradition and give a sense of continuity between the generations. Its work is inspired by the ideas of freedom, the spirit of the age, the constant change and social dynamics. The company's performances use the techniques of contemporary dance arts by combining the past and the present as seen from a modern perspective. Dragon KungFu's practice is an attempt to interpret traditional culture in the light of contemporary arts in China.

In Macedonia, the Chinese group will perform the KungFu dance Gateway, directed by Liu Lu. Zou Hang is the spectacle's music director.

Gateway fascinates with its philosophical depth, physical endurance, and the performers' remarkable acrobatic skills. The title carries a number of meanings door, entrance, and pathway, while the performance itself represents a theatrical play consisting of three levels which the dancers have to complete. The prize of every level and moving further ahead in the game depends on the door which the player chooses. Every door leads to a new situation and tasks to be accomplished. The show is performed by 11 dancers who have to pass through 5 different stories and so change the turn of events, the setting, and the dance vocabulary.
