On April 28, 2023, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang met in Beijing with Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Daren Tang.

Qin Gang said that China attaches great importance to protecting intellectual property rights (IPR), and is moving from a major IPR country to a country strong in IPR at a faster pace. China firmly supports WIPO in playing a leading and coordinating role in the field of global IPR governance, and stands ready to constantly deepen high-level practical cooperation between the two sides, adhere to extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, oppose IPR hegemony, and promote the establishment of IPR international rules that are beneficial to all, inclusive, balanced and effective, so as to make outcomes of scientific and technological innovation accessible to, shared among and used by more countries and peoples, and uphold all countries’ legitimate right to development.

Daren Tang said that over the past 50 years, China’s IPR cause has made historic achievements. WIPO is committed to advancing social progress through IPR protection and development, and is ready to maintain sound communication and exchanges with China to jointly promote sustained and sound development of global IPR governance.
