Foreign Ministers of China and Other Five Central Asia Countries Jointly Attend the Launching Ceremony of Chang’an Train from Xi’an to Central Asia Commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the China-Europe Railway Express and the Belt and Road Initiative

On April 26, 2023, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang visited Xi’an International Trade & Logistics Park with five foreign ministers attending the fourth China-Central Asia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and attended the launching ceremony of the Chang’an Train from Xi’an to Central Asia commemorating the 10th anniversary of the China-Europe Railway Express and the Belt and Road Initiative.

After listening to the briefings on the construction of the Xi’an International Trade & Logistics Park and the China-Europe Railway Express assembly center in Xi’an, foreign ministers learned in detail that Shaanxi and Xi’an have deeply integrated themselves with the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative and yielded fruitful achievements in building an inland hub for reform and opening up. They spoke highly of the achievements of the dry port logistics hub of Xi’an International Trade & Logistics Park and the multimodal transport, as well as the abundant results in the China-Europe Railway Express. They expect to strengthen the synergy of development strategies with China, and enhance sub-national and logistics cooperation with the geographical advantage of Xi’an.

Foreign ministers jointly pushed the lever, launching the Chang’an Train from Xi’an to Central Asia commemorating the 10th anniversary of the China-Europe Railway Express and the Belt and Road Initiative.

It is known that the China-Europe Railway Express assembly center in Xi’an has 17 mainlines from the city to Central Asia countries. Goods from the countries along the route of the Belt and Road Initiative and 29 provinces in China are collected and distributed here, which plays an important role in deepening cooperation between China and Central Asia, and promoting unimpeded two-way logistics. Chang’an Train’s number of trips, volume of cargo, ratio of laden containers and other core indicators rank the top in China for several consecutive years. In the first quarter of this year, Chang'an Train provided over 1100 services, up by 40 percent year on year. In 2022, it offered 4639 services in total, carrying more than 4 million tons of goods, respectively up by 20 percent and 43 percent year on year.

The special train from Xi'an to Central Asia carries over 260 new energy vehicles made by BYD Auto in Xi'an, and is expected to arrive in Tashkent in 12 days.

Foreign ministers were interested in BYD's new energy passenger vehicles and took a test drive. According to reports, The new energy vehicles in Xi'an account for 14 percent of the total production in China, and they are sold worldwide and very popular in Central Asia.
