On April 17, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met with Member of the Political Bureau of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos Saleumxay Kommasith in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that China and Laos are friendly neighbors linked by mountains and rivers. Bilateral relations have stood the test of changing international situation and even wars, and are rock-solid and unshakable. In November last year, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President Xi Jinping and visiting General Secretary of LPRP Central Committee and President Thongloun Sisoulith reached a political common understanding on jointly building a high-standard, high-quality and high-level China-Laos community with a shared future. That marks a new leap forward in bilateral relations. The two sides should follow through on the strategic common understandings reached between the top leaders of the two parties and two countries, carry forward traditional friendship, deepen political mutual trust, synergize development strategies, and elevate bilateral relations to new heights.

Wang Yi pointed out that China and Laos, both socialist countries led by communist parties with shared ideals, beliefs and aspirations, are a community with a shared future in its real sense. The respective success of China and Laos represents the success of the socialist cause. China is ready to work with Laos to firmly support each other in safeguarding their respective core interests, resolutely oppose external interference, containment and suppression, increase exchanges on state governance, deepen practical cooperation, give full play to the role of the China-Laos Railway as a demonstration project and a bond linking the two countries, promote the implementation of the China-Laos-Thailand Connectivity Development Corridor Outlook, and speed up the construction of the China-Laos Economic Corridor, so as to open up broad prospects for Lao's development and bring benefits to the two countries and two peoples.

Noting that Laos is an important member of ASEAN, Wang Yi stressed that China is ready to work with Laos to uphold ASEAN centrality, stick to open regionalism, protect our shared home, and foster a more favorable environment for regional development and revitalization.

Saleumxay Kommasith said that Laos and China have similar development philosophies and the same political system, and both follow the path of socialism. The Lao people wholeheartedly appreciate the strong support and selfless help of the CPC, the Chinese government and the Chinese people. Laos is ready to work with China to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, build a Laos-China community with a shared future, and jointly advance the cause of socialism.
