Qin Gang Holds Talks with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith

On April 17, 2023, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang held talks with visiting Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith.

Qin Gang said that General Secretary Xi Jinping held meetings with visiting General Secretary Thongloun Sisoulith last November, drawing a grand blueprint for advancing the building of a China-Laos community with a shared future. China and Laos are standing at a new starting point in history, and bilateral relations are embracing new development opportunities. China is ready to cooperate closely with Laos to translate the important common understandings between the the top leaders of the two parties and two countries into tangible outcomes of cooperation, and support Laos in stabilizing development and improving the people's livelihood, and in playing a more important role on international and regional arenas.

Saleumxay Kommasith said that Laos attaches great importance to Laos-China relations, and is ready to carry forward the spirit of good neighbors, good friends, good comrades and good partners, follow through on the common understandings between the leaders of the two parties and two countries, ensure the smooth operation of the Laos-China railway, deepen cooperation in such fields as economy and trade, energy and minerals, and tourism, and earnestly advance the building of a Laos-China community with a shared future.

The two sides agreed to follow the guidance of head-of-state diplomacy, maintain high-level mutual visits, strengthen practical cooperation, keep close personnel exchanges, promote coordinated development, continue to firmly support each other's core interests, and prioritize the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative in cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides agreed that they should advance the building of a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable home for China and ASEAN, promote synergy between the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific and the Belt and Road Initiative, and elevate the level of China-ASEAN cooperation. Both sides need to sternly oppose any external interference in regional affairs under the pretext of the Taiwan question, the South China Sea, human rights, water resources, and other issues. Both sides need to firmly support ASEAN centrality and an ASEAN-centered regional cooperation architecture, uphold openness and inclusiveness, oppose division and confrontation, properly manage hotspot and sensitive issues, and promote regional solidarity, peace and development.
