On February 22, 2023 local time, Foreign Minister Qin Gang briefed the press on the outcomes and the common understandings reached between the two sides after co-chairing the 4th meeting of the Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation between China and Indonesia with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in Jakarta.

The two sides agreed that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China and Indonesia have fostered closer synergy between their development strategies, worked jointly to address risks and challenges, and constantly deepened the new pattern of "four-wheel drive" cooperation in the political, economic, cultural and maritime fields, setting a fine example of developing countries sharing a common future, seeking strength through unity and working together in solidarity.

The two sides will continue to follow the guidance of the two heads of state, maintain close high-level exchanges, consolidate high-level strategic mutual trust, strengthen defense cooperation, upgrade political and security policy coordination, give each other firm support on issues involving each other's core interests and major concerns, and work for deeper and more solid progress in building a China-Indonesia community with a shared future.

The two sides will further synergize their strategies and speed up the construction of flagship projects under the Belt and Road Initiative such as the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway to ensure their completion and opening to traffic on schedule. The two sides will continue to advance the development of key projects such as the "Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridor" and "Two Countries, Twin Parks", and set new benchmarks for high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.

The two sides will continue to upgrade the level of economic, trade and investment cooperation. China has been Indonesia's largest trading partner for 10 years in a row and is the country's second-largest source of foreign investment. China is ready to import more commodities and quality agricultural and fishery products from Indonesia in light of market needs, encourage Chinese enterprises to invest in Indonesia, expand cooperation in infrastructure, green development, digital economy, health care and other fields, foster new highlights in maritime cooperation, and accelerate the resumption of fishery cooperation.

The two sides will strengthen cooperation in such fields as tourism, education, culture, youth and sports and strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Both sides believe that with more direct flights between the two countries, the number of Chinese tourists going to Indonesia will soon return to or even surpass the pre-pandemic level.

The two sides will stick to major-country coordination, further advance the synergy and cooperation between the Belt and Road Initiative and the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific to jointly build a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable home.

The two sides will work with other ASEAN countries to promote full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, accelerate consultations on a Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, and jointly maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea.

The two sides will strengthen cooperation on the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative, deepen communication and coordination under the G20, BRICS and other multilateral frameworks, and jointly uphold and practice true multilateralism.
