On October 29, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken of the US, who was in China to attend the China-US Interim Strategic Security Dialogue.

Wang Yi welcomed Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visit on the eve of the forthcoming US presidential election, and said that last month, President Xi Jinping and President Barack Obama held a successful "west lake conversation" during the G20 Hangzhou Summit. The most important consensus reached by both sides is to cherish the positive progress made in China-US relations in the past eight years, maintain strategic dialogue, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and manage and control divergences in a constructive manner, so as to jointly pass a sound and stable China-US relationship to the new US government. China is willing to work together with the US to earnestly implement the above-mentioned important consensus and inject more positive energy into China-US relationship so that it can continuously move forward along the right path of building a new model of major-country relationship.

Antony Blinken said that the US also considers the Hangzhou meeting between the two heads of state fruitful. President Barack Obama looks forward to meeting again with President Xi Jinping during the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Lima in November. The US is willing to make joint efforts with China to push US-China relationship for more progress so as to lay a solid foundation for the continuous development of bilateral relationship after the change of the US government.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue and other international and regional issues of common concern.
