After a long period of time, the potential of the railway traffic in Macedonia is being restored. The first of the six new 

trains from China the Government has procured has already arrived. In an interview for Telegraf.mk, Macedonian

Transport Minister Vlado Misajlovski  explained February 13, 2016, Saturday.

"For the first time in several decades we started with the renewal of the train capacities. We were all witnesses of the condition the trains were 

in prior to this Government's term and its investments in the improvement of the train stocks. That's why we decided to invest EUR 25 million 

only in the procurement of six new passenger trains. I say only in passenger trains, because we've invested also in the procurement of freight

 trains and locomotives.

 Last year, the first electric train arrived and several days ago, it was officially put to use to operate the Skopje-Veles-Tabanovce line. There were many speculations in the media that this train would not be able to run on our rail tracks or that it would be 

technically unfit to the railway system in Macedonia, but during the past week, we dismissed those speculations. These trains are constructed

 with the technical support of Macedonian engineers, who were directly involved in the process of the trains' production in China. All the 

trains are manufactured in line with European standards that fit to our rail tracks, therefore there is no room for speculations.

The second train has a diesel type motor, and it will operate the line to Bitola. But before we put it to use, it first has to go through to same

 security tests, for which I have information they will take up to a month to be performed. The remaining four trains will arrive by the end of 

April the latest, but first two will arrive and then the remaining two. With this investment, we will replace 60 percent of the passenger train

 stock in our railway system.

We are making additional analysis to procure several more trains, with which we would completely renew the train stocks and enable 

a safe, secure and quality passenger transportation for the Macedonian citizens," Misajlovski explained.
