Macedonia is interested in being part of a project on the construction of railroad tracks from the Greek port of Piraeus to Budapest in Hungary.

This was stated by Macedonia's Deputy PM responsible for economic affairs Vladimir Pesevski on Friday, 16th January 2015, in a meeting with a Chinese delegation, led by Deputy Minister of National Development and Reform Commission Xu Xianping, Deputy Director General of China's Railway Corporation Huang Min and Vice President of the Export-Import Bank of China, Sun Ping.

At the meeting, both parties urged a feasibility study to be prepared regarding the route of the railroad track and the project's cost, which would be followed by a second stage aimed at defining models to finance the project, Pesevski's office said in a press release.

The Deputy PM said the project was of huge importance for Macedonia because it was expected to stimulate an economic growth and create many new jobs, while also turning Macedonia into one of the main transport corridors in Europe.

Both parties underscored the importance of the project on the construction of a high-speed railway line saying it would contribute to developing the entire region, better connection between the countries and facilitating trade and transportation.
